Seventy years of 'Oz'
Take part in a nationwide celebration of the 70th anniversary of the classic 1939 family film "The Wizard of Oz" at a special one-night-only, in-theater presentation. Several local theaters are participating by showing "The Wizard of Oz" re-mastered and in high definition. The audience will also see the documentary "To Oz! The Making of a Classic," which features home movie footage and interviews with the film's stars. Robert Osborne of television's Turner Classic Movies will introduce and share stories about the legendary film.

Step back in time for three, seven-inning Civil War-era baseball games as the Bloomingdale All-Stars, the Lockport Sleepers and the Downers Grove Plowboys take to the field for a vintage tournament. Players will follow 1858 baseball rules, including no gloves, no stealing, so spitting and no cursing. Spectators can bring chairs and blankets for seating, along with picnic lunches. Food will be available for purchase. The Battlefield Balladeers provide musical entertainment. Proceeds will help fix or replace the headstones of Civil War and War of 1812 veterans in Bloomingdale's St. Paul Cemetery.

"What's in Your Dinner Pail?"
Find out how well-packed meals in a metal bucket in the 1890s did the same job that modern plastic wraps, insulated bags and juice boxes do today at the "What's in Your Dinner Pail?" program. Visitors can help prepare a typical meal of an 1890s student by picking vegetables, preparing the vegetables for a stew and by cutting biscuits for baking.
