Schaumburg couple die in Palatine accident

Authorities identified the husband and wife from Schaumburg that died as a result of a Monday morning motorcycle accident in Palatine as Michael and Susan Kelm of the 100 block of Weymouth Lane in Schaumburg.

Officials from the Cook County Medical Examiner officials said Michael Kelm, 55, was pronounced dead at 2:26 p.m. at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. His 54-year-old wife was pronounced dead a little more than an hour later, also at Lutheran General.

Cook County Sheriff spokeswoman Lisa Gordon said the couple was traveling south on North Quentin Road near West Dundee Road just before noon Monday, when their motorcycle was struck by a car pulling out of a gas station, also heading south.

The couple and the driver of the car were taken from the scene to Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. The still unidentified driver of the car was treated and released.

The driver of the car is not being identified and has not been charged in the accident. Gordon said the driver showed no signs of being under the influence.
