Vernon Hills rallies past Leyden
Vernon Hills' volleyball players didn't hang their heads after losing a tough opening game against visiting Leyden on Wednesday night.
Instead, the Cougars rallied for a 22-25, 25-16, 25-14 win in the nonconference match.
Nora Snyder pounded 8 kills on 16-of-17 hitting for Vernon Hills (2-1), while Megan Meline and Alla Krashevsky added 6 and 5 kills, respectively.
Amy Choi played huge for the winners, too, delivering 3 aces on 15-of-15 serving, recording 9 digs and going 18-of-21 in serve-receive. She had 2 kills, as well.
Krashevsky added 3 blocks, while Alana Coy was 39-of-40 setting with 20 assists.
Antioch d. Round Lake: Lauren Grant slammed 7 kills and chalked 4 digs, and Jessica Ploss had 5 kills and 2 blocks, as the Sequoits pulled out a 25-20, 25-15 win over what coach Glen Heitman called a "scrappy defensive team."
Erica Lubkeman led the Antioch defense in the North Suburban Prairie opener with 8 digs, and Amber Dalgaard chipped in 7 digs. Kendall Padget and Savana Bailey ran the offense with 8 and 6 assists, respectively.
For Round Lake, Stephanie Infante has 14 digs and 3 aces.
Hayley Vaughn was 36-of-38 setting with 7 assists. Samantha Hughes had 3 blocks.
Mundelein d. Glenbrook North: The Mustangs stayed undefeated, prevailing 25-15, 23-25, 25-16, as Brittany Jones had 10 kills and Megan Barron added nine.
Kelsy Sullivan was 66-of-66 setting with 22 assists for Mundelein (3-0).
Michelle Parssinen contributed 8 blocks and 4 kills. Alysa Fritz was a force, too, with 22 digs and 2 aces. She was 17 of 18 on serve-receive, as well. Barron was 17 of 17 on serve-receive.
