District 300 posts budget:

Community Unit District 300 has placed its 2009-10 budget on display. Despite cuts in certain grants, the district's budget for this year is balanced - thanks to federal stimulus money, about $1.9 million in district-level cuts and an increase in state funding for schools. Still, district officials expect further cuts in coming years. "There will be budget reductions in the next year - and possibly the following year," Chief Financial Officer Cheryl Crates said. The school board is scheduled to approve the budget on Sept. 28.

McHenry County police patrol:

McHenry County Sheriff's police will conduct stepped-up enforcement of speeding, seat belt use, child safety seats and drunken driving through Sept. 7. The increased patrols are funded through an Illinois Department of Transportation Traffic Safety Grant. This is the department's fifth and last crackdown funded through the grant.

Huntley downtown forum:

Huntley is holding a forum to survey residents and business owners on their concerns and hopes regarding the village's downtown. The feedback will be used to help develop Huntley's Downtown Revitalization Plan. The forum will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at village hall, 10987 Main St. Visit hlplanning.com/huntley, or call (847) 669-9600.
