Job seeker boot camp

Looking to get job skills, fast? Short-term training for job skills that will result in near immediate employment or to prepare for a better job is the purpose of "Boot Camp," an Elgin Community College program. Classes include medical coding, medical billing, pharmacy technician, "green" technology training, wedding planning, dialysis technician and home inspection training. Kiwanis barbecue planned

The Kiwanis Club of Elgin will host its 50th annual barbecue from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22, at the Epworth United Methodist Church, 37W040 Highland Ave., Elgin. Pork chop and chicken dinners will be prepared by the Famous Fay's Barbecue. The cost is $12 and carryout meals are available. Proceeds go to local charities for children and youths. Donate to homeless students

With the rate of homeless students rapidly climbing, Community Unit District 300 is accepting donations of new school supplies at any of its campuses, or its central office, 300 Cleveland Ave., Carpentersville. The supplies will be given to homeless students to use in the upcoming school year.
