Elgin mulls rebate program:

Elgin city council leaders will hear a presentation at 6 p.m. Wednesday at city hall, 150 Dexter Court, about possible changes to the city's senior property tax rebate program. In July, Mayor Ed Schock suggested the city explore issuing vouchers good at Elgin area businesses instead of the $200 a year rebated to seniors 65 and older each year from casino proceeds. His reasoning was the $743,000 rebated each year could also help the local economy. If any changes are made, they likely will take effect in 2010.

E. Dundee red light program ready:

East Dundee police will begin a 30-day warning period Wednesday for red light enforcement at the intersection of Routes 72 and 68. During the warning period, violators will receive a warning notice. The village also plans to install two more cameras at the intersection of Routes 25 and 72. Those cameras are not expected to be installed for at least three months, Police Chief Terry Mee said.
