District 300 mulling lease
The Community Unit District 300 school board is considering an agreement with the Kane County Forest Preserve District and two community organizations that would allow the district to lease an abandoned house for environmental education. The well-preserved house is located along Sleepy Hollow Road, between Route 72 and Huntley Road, on the 160-acre Schweitzer property. Under the deal, District 300 would use the lower level of the house for environmental education and the Citizen Advocate Team and Friends of the Fox River would have office space on the second floor. If the deal is not approved, the forest preserve district plans to raze the house. District 300's administration has recommended approval of the agreement.
