District 47 passes budget:
The Crystal Lake Elementary School District 47 school board has approved a tentative budget for the 2009-10 school year. The $84 million budget includes a projected deficit of about $2.1 million. Staff will present a revised budget in August; the board must approve a final budget by the end of September. Officials will look to balance the budget next year, although deferring technology upgrades and maintenance may not be an option - forcing the district to cut other areas. "That budget, to me, looks pretty light," Chief Financial Officer Susan Shepard said. "We might have to increase that. That might send the deficit in the other direction."
Pingree Grove Police net safety honors:
The Pingree Grove Police Department has placed second in the 2008-09 Illinois Traffic Safety Challenge, a statewide highway safety program that honors police agencies for handling traffic and highway safety issues in their towns. The Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police organizes the program and will award Pingree Grove Aug. 12 during the annual Midwest Police and Security Expo in Rosemont.
