Roselle patrol results:
Roselle police arrested 10 drivers for DUI during special patrols and safety checks conducted June 19 to July 6. During the state-funded crackdown police also arrested four motorists for driving on a suspended license, two for alcohol violations and one on an outstanding arrest warrant. Additionally, officers issued 335 speeding tickets, 39 restraint citations, 11 tickets for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and 136 citations for other violations.
Wood Dale race winners:
Roughly 150 people participated in Wood Dale Park District's Summer Splash and Duck Race July 18. Winners from Summer Splash events were: Sand Castle contest, Sierra Ramos and Pamela Deckert; Guess the number of ducks in the jar, Theresa Cascio. The top 10 duck race winners were Susan Dawson, Lilly Sato, Erika Haska, Nancy Foiles, Linda Wondrasek, Mateo Olcar, Kathy Dalaskey, Sadie Kosmach, Angela Keegan and Kevin Meiner.
Library joins eMediaLibrary:
Roselle Public Library has joined eMediaLibrary, partnering with 16 other area libraries to provide patrons with access to more than 1,800 downloadable audiobooks. All that's needed is an Internet-connected computer and a valid Roselle Public Library card and PIN. Library patrons can listen to the audiobooks on a Windows or Mac PC or transfer the file to a MP3 player. Many of the titles can be burned to a CD. Most of the titles are iPod and iPhone compatible. BU sponsors women's summit:
Tickets go on sale Saturday for the third annual Women's Leadership Summit on Oct. 9 at Benedictine University in Lisle. Featured speakers are Arin N. Reeves, a consultant on racial and ethnic diversity; Tellabs executive Jean K. Holley; and Jennifer Hou Kwong, who overcame extraordinary challenges in her personal and professional life. Dist. 53 board opening:
Butler School District 53 board member Patte Knuth resigned this month. The board is seeking applicants to fill her post, which expires in April 2011. Knuth served on the board since 2003 and has chaired several committees for the district. She cited personal and professional reasons for resigning. Interested applicants should submit a resume detailing related experience and qualifications to the District 53 office, 2801 York Road, Oak Brook. Materials must be received by noon Aug. 21. Applicants must be 18 or older, a U.S. citizen, a resident of District 53 for the past year and a registered voter. The board will invite selected applicants to interview on Aug. 27. The board will take action in open session to name a successor.
