District 300 rehires teachers:

Community Unit District 300 may rehire as many as 10 of the 32 teachers it laid off for budgetary reasons earlier this year, according to Human Resources Director John Light. However, at least half those teachers will replace educators who are resigning. The rest will help keep class sizes consistent. The 32 teachers were let go because of concerns the district would face a deficit this year. Officials now, because of staff cuts, project a balanced budge. The district still plans to replace all of the 39 teachers who were dismissed for performance reasons, Light said.
