Never to early to buy a duck:
The Boys and Girls Club of Elgin has $5 ducks for sale for its 11th annual Duck Pluck at 2:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at Festival Park fountain, 136 S. Grove, Elgin. The prizes range from cash to a seven-day trip to Mexico and more if your duck or ducks are chosen. The Boys and Girls Club helps some 1,300 kids a year. For more information, visit elginducks.com.
Golfing for a cause:
Several groups representing firefighters within the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District are putting on a golf outing to benefit Scott Burkemper, a local firefighter now battling kidney cancer. The outing will be held 1 p.m. Monday, July 27, at the Chalet Hills Country Club, 943 Rawson Road, Cary. The event costs $105 and includes 18 holes of golf, lunch and dinner. Music at the mall:
Algonquin Commons continues its free, live concert series on Sunday. The series, which features a full range of music that includes classic rock and reggae, runs from 5 to 7 p.m. Sundays, concluding Aug. 9. Church hosts annual barbecue:
The First Congregational Church of Huntley is hosting its annual Fay's Pork Chop Barbecue from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25. The event, which will be held at the corner of Main and Myrtle streets, features Fay's famous pork chops, a full range of sides and live entertainment. Farmers market open Saturday:
The Dundee Farmers Market is open beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. About 40 vendors will sell fresh, locally grown produce, flowers and bedding plants, as well as antiques and collectibles. The farmers market is at the Dundee Township Visitors Center, also known as the Depot, 319 N. River St., East Dundee. The market runs from May through October and includes an annual tomato contest and pumpkin festival.
