Youth needed for Founders' Days fun

The Algonquin/Lake in the Hills Jaycees are looking for boys and girls ages 5-12 to participate in Algonquin Founders' weekend, July 23-26. This two-part event gives children the opportunity to ride on the float in the Founders' Day Parade Saturday and participate in the Little Miss & Mr. Founders' Pageant, which takes place on the Main Stage at Towne Park Sunday morning. W. Dundee to host annual blood drive

St. James Episcopal Church, 516 Washington St. in West Dundee, will join the village's annual blood drive from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 22, at the Public Safety Center 2, 100 Carrington Drive. Call the West Dundee village hall at (847) 551-3800 to schedule a time for your donation or visit www.wdundee.org to sign up online. Walk-ins are welcome until 7 p.m. Photo ID is required. The village has set a goal of 50 pints of blood. All donors will receive a certificate for a free quart of Oberweis ice cream.

Oak Crests hosts its monthly dinner

Oak Crest Residence and Atrium Apartments, 204 S. State St., Elgin, invites the community to its July dinner at 6 p.m. Monday, July 20. Listen to live music while enjoying a buffet featuring chef salad and corned beef sandwich with raspberry sherbet for dessert. The cost is a $12.50 donation per dinner. VNA center offers Back to School Day

VNA Health Center, 620 Wing St. in Elgin, is offering a "Back to School" Day from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 25. Doctors and nurse practitioners will be available to give school and sports physicals for $25. Appointments are encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. 'West Side Story' on stage in Huntley

St. Peter Evangelical to sponsor dinner

St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43W301 Plank Road, a quarter-mile east of Route 47 in Hampshire, will hold its annual pork chop sandwich dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 25. Donate items for yard sale fundraiser

You can shop for great bargains at The Larkin Center's annual community yard sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31, at the center, 1212 Larkin Ave. in Elgin. The agency is in need of small household items, kitchenware, furniture, sporting goods, bikes and knickknacks. Donated items can be dropped off on the front porch at 1212 Larkin Ave. starting Monday, July 27, through the morning of July 30. Dinner, music at VFW Post 2298

On Saturday, Aug. 1, the Tri-City Evergreen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2298 will present an evening of music and buffet dinner at the post home, 117 S. First St., West Dundee. It will feature tributes to Frank Sinatra by John LoBianco, Patsy Kline by Alice Loftus and Elvis by Bruce Wisser. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.
