Smokey Robinson scheduled to perform at Morton Arboretum
Whether you're a longtime Motown fan, a hip music lover or the parent of energetic children, the Morton Arboretum is betting its summer concert series will help you get "In Tune with Trees."
The "In Tune with Trees" series features six concerts - by artists ranging from Smokey Robinson to the Plain White T's to Disney performers singing "High School Musical" songs - packed into two weekends full of music on the arboretum's concert lawn, surrounded by the trees and landscapes of the outdoor museum.
The premiere weekend opens with Grammy-winning blues singer Keb' Mo', who will be joined by New Orleans band the Subdudes, on Friday, July 24.
Smokey Robinson takes the stage on Saturday, July 25. The Motown legend is known for hits such as "Tears of a Clown," "The Tracks of My Tears," "I Second that Emotion" and "You've Really Got a Hold on Me." His latest album, "Time Flies When You're Having Fun," is slated for release on Aug. 25.
Ralph's World, a family show featuring Chicago-based artist Ralph Covert, rounds out the weekend with a performance on Sunday, July 26.
The series picks up again during the third week of August with Plain White T's performing on Friday, Aug. 21. The band, which has members hailing from Lombard, Villa Park and Addison, broke through in 2007 when "Hey There Delilah" topped the charts and is touring in support of its "Big Bad World" CD. Chicago-based rock band Lovehammers opens.
Saturday, Aug. 22, is ladies' night featuring Shawn Colvin and Nanci Griffith. Colvin, a contemporary folk-rock artist, is best known for her Grammy-winning single "Sonny Came Home." A folk singer-songwriter, Griffith has three decades in the music business and has familiar songs such as "From a Distance" and "Love at the Five and Dime."
Disney's High School Musical: Summer Celebration concludes the series with two performances on Sunday, Aug. 23. The show features performers cast as the characters from the "High School Musical" movie trilogy singing favorites like "We're All in This Together" and "Fabulous."
Ticket prices vary by show and are available at the Visitor Center, by phone at (630) 725-2066 or online at mortonarb.org.
