Wauconda Twp. needs transparency
Wauconda Township citizens were assured the continuation of an ambiguous government on April 7, 2009. The re-elected representatives continue the one man show we have all come to ignore. With 39 percent of the populist vote, some would think it was time for reflection and change, but not in our leadership.
The township needs to evolve into a transparent entity and answer the call to provide information under the Freedom of Information Act.
One would question why all invoices, proposed budgets and ordinances, etc., are not posted on the Web site. The clear reason is that would provide taxpayers with information and choice; clearly not an option in Wauconda Township.

When a 9-foot bike path was opposed by the homeowners along Garland road, two 5-foot paths were offered as "a done deal" because it is "smaller" and Ordinance 06-17-09-02 was presented to the trustees. This statute gives the authority to the Township to cut the taxpayers trees, dig up our flowers, remove fences, mailboxes and do whatever at the individual homeowners' expense. It does not matter if the tree is 80 years old or the feature has there for 50 years, 30 days notice from the township and it is your obligation to PAY.

An electric sign was approved by the township board last year. Does a small community need a sign costing tens of thousands of dollars? Is anyone in the township office affected by the economy? This is a time to save money and support the growing ranks of the unemployed, not erect signs to promote poor fiscal policy.
