Help still needed:
Elgin Parks and Recreation Department officials are still in need of volunteers to help assemble ramps, jumps and other obstacles between July 20 and July 30 at the city's second skateboard park at Prairie Park, an eight-acre site on Willard Avenue, north of Villa Street. The city spent $100,000 on ramps for the 11,000-square-foot park. Volunteers are needed for two-hour shifts. Anyone 13 and older may volunteer, but those using power tools must be at least 18. District 158 starts advisory group:
Huntley Unit District 158 has created an advisory group for parents of special-needs children in the district. The committee will advise the district's special education department and help coordinate parental involvement in the program. An organizational meeting will be held from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, at the administration building, 650 Academic Drive, Algonquin. Call (847) 659-6131.
Harvest market open:
The Downtown Elgin Harvest Market is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Oct. 8 at the city hall parking lot, the corner of East Highland and Douglas avenues. Area growers bring fresh, quality vegetables, fruits, flowers, bread, meat, eggs, olive oil and more. Special events are planned for each week as well.
