Elgin park opening:
Elgin's Parks and Recreation Department will hold a grand opening and dedication ceremony at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 27, for Cornerstone Park at Mulberry and Lilac lanes. Formerly known as Zayre Park, Cornerstone and its playground was developed through donations from the nearby Harvest Bible Chapel, city funding and a $50,000 grant secured by former State Rep. School hosts pom clinic:
The Cary-Grove High School Varsity pom squad is holding a clinic for girls in preschool through eighth grade. Girls will learn pom routines and perform for their parents at the end of the second day. The clinic will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. July 13 and 14 at the high school. Before July 1, the clinic costs $25 for preschoolers and kindergartners; it costs $35 for girls in grades one through eight. The cost goes up by $5 after July 1. Farmers market open Saturday:
The Dundee Farmers Market is open beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. About 40 vendors will sell fresh, locally grown produce, flowers and bedding plants, as well as antiques and collectibles. The farmers market is at the Dundee Township Visitors Center, also known as the Depot, 319 N. River St., East Dundee. The market runs from May through October and includes an annual tomato contest and pumpkin festival.

The Elgin Fire Department and the Elgin Association of Firefighters Local 439 have magnetized pouches available for city residents at any of Elgin's seven fire stations. You can put important medical information in the pouches that can then easily be accessed by paramedics or fire crews during an emergency. Community or neighborhood groups can learn more by scheduling a presentation with Elgin Fire Lt. Bob Bedard by calling (847) 931-6175.
