District 158 may refund bonds:
Huntley Unit District 158 officials are moving forward with a plan to refinance the bonds that paid for a $11.8 million addition to Marlowe Middle School. District officials originally intended to pay back the bonds with developer fees, but that revenue has declined on an annual basis from about $3 million at its height to just $300,000 - not enough to cover the $1.9 million bond payment due each year. This year, the district used money from its operating funds to cover the payment. Comptroller Mark Altmayer says he will present a refinancing plan at the district's next finance committee meeting. Refinancing will lower the district's payments but will stretch out the payback - incurring a higher interest cost that will ultimately fall on taxpayers. The district's bond consultant estimated the district has about $3.8 million left to repay after the July payment.
District 155 shake-up:
One of the top administrators in Crystal Lake High School District 155 will resign at the end of this month. Director of Operations Timothy Neubauer is leaving the district for another job. A district spokesman said the position will not be filled but that Neubauer's duties will be taken over by existing administrative staff. "We've consolidated and streamlined that position," District 155 spokesman Jeff Puma said. Also, Director of Student Services Debbi Cleary is leaving her post to become the director of the district's Haber Oaks campus. On July 1, Mark Kovack will take over Cleary's position, which oversees the district's special education programs.
District 300 recaps Relay:
More than 750 students, parents, staff and others in Community Unit District 300 raised more than $80,000 in the district's Relay for Life in May. This year's relay, a fundraiser for cancer research, was the first in which students from all three district high schools participated.
