Naperville collecting brush:
Naperville will conduct a special brush collection for storm damage. Residents wishing to participate should call the public works department at (630) 420-6095 by Thursday, June 25. The special collection will begin June 29 and may take up to two weeks to complete. All residents who have requested the special collection should place their brush on the curb by 7 a.m. June 29. Addison Web redesign:
The Village of Addison Web site, addisonadvantage.org, launched a redesign with a cleaner, more modern look in a partnership with Bending Design of East Dundee. This is the fourth design since its debut in 1997. New navigation allows visitors to more quickly locate information such as news updates, links, streaming video and important documents and forms. Information is more conveniently organized by category, and drop-down menus allow nearly every page in the site to be located with a single click. In addition, visitors can now watch programming from Addison Community Television in real time 24 hours a day.
Soap box derby winners:
The Greater Chicago Soap Box Derby Association has announced the winners from the 2009 All-American Local Soap Box Derby Race. These winners will represent Chicago at the 72nd All-American Soap Box Derby World Championship Race on July 25 in Akron, Ohio. They will compete with more than 500 boys and girls from across the United States and five foreign countries for the world title. The winners include: Jeff Shoopman of Gurnee, stock division champion; Melanie Kohout of Geneva, superstock division championship; Sheri Lazowski of Aurora, superstock division champion; and Claire Kohout of Geneva, master division champion.
Lisle conducts safety check:
Lisle police will be conducting a roadside safety check Friday evening along Ogden Avenue. Police are focusing their efforts on intoxicated drivers, but will be enforcing other laws such as speeding and seat belt use. Statistics indicate midnight to 3 a.m. is the deadliest time to be on the road, police officials said. It's also the time when crashes have the highest percentage of alcohol involvement and lower seat belt use.
Dog wash fundraiser:
WERV 95.9-FM The River is partnering with Friends of the DuPage County Animal Care and Control Center to sponsor this year's "Dog Wash n' Walk event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 26 at the IIT Rice Campus in Wheaton. The event will feature musical entertainment from the radio station, food and demonstrations of dog obedience and agility. More than 40 different vendors and pet rescues groups will be on hand to showcase products, services and animals in need of homes. Cost for the event varies depending on the level of participation.
