Healthy living summit planned
Activate Elgin, a community coalition, will host its first annual healthy living summit, "Active Living and Healthy Eating: Through Community Partnership," from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. June 25 at Elgin Community College. This expo is geared toward local businesses, schools, health care organizations, faith-based entities, neighborhood associations and community groups. Attendees will gain insight on the obesity epidemic and health initiatives in the Elgin community, explore opportunities to deepen existing and grow new community partnerships. Farmers market open Saturday
The Dundee Farmers Market is open beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday. About 40 vendors will sell fresh, locally grown produce, flowers and bedding plants, as well as antiques and collectibles. The farmers market is at the Dundee Township Visitors Center, also known as the Depot, 319 N. River St., East Dundee. The market runs from May through October and includes an annual tomato contest and pumpkin festival.
Register for fall classes
Open registration for summer and fall credit classes at Elgin Community College will continue until classes start, space permitting. Summer classes begin the weeks of June 15 and 29 and July 13. Fall 16-week classes begin the week of Aug. 24; 12-week classes begin the week of Sept. 21; and eight-week classes begin the week of Oct. 19. Early registration is advised to get the best selection of courses and times. Students with an ECC identification number can register online at elgin.edu/accessecc. Otherwise, registration may be made in person at the registration center in Room 165 of the Student Resource Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. The registration center is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The college is closed Fridays through Aug. 7. Students will be expected to provide proof of having met course prerequisites, if documentation is not already on file with the ECC records office.
