Help animals in need and get free guitar strings
The folks at Fat Cat Guitars along Randall Road in Carpentersville are holding a benefit this weekend to help four-legged friends.
They know that in this economy, it's hard for many to feed their families, not to mention their pets. And because of that, many local shelters are feeling the strain of the economy too.
The Fat Cats are hoping that you'll do a good deed, and are offering you something in return.
From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 13, they're holding a Frets for Pets benefit for the Assisi Animal Foundation.
If you bring in one of their suggested donation items that day, you can get a fresh new set of strings installed on your guitar, on-site by the Fat Cat staff.
"We've been reading a lot lately about the effect of the recession and foreclosure crisis on family pets," said Fat Cat Guitars owner Scott Bond. "People are being forced to give up their four-legged family members, and in addition to the heartbreak for the people and animals, that puts a real strain on the shelters. We wanted to figure out a way to help."
All proceeds from the benefit will go to Assisi, a no-kill shelter that has been serving the area for 25 years.
Assisi offers shelter to cats and dogs that have been abandoned, rescued or given up. It also helps find new homes for the animals and provides pet therapy programs to local organizations and nursing homes.
If you bring one of the following donations during Frets for Pets, you can get the new strings.
The requested donations are:
• $10 or more cash or check donation payable to Assisi Animal Foundation
• 10 cans of Friskies or Fancy Feast for Cats
• A 5 pound bag Friskies or Fancy Feast for Cats
• 5 gallon bottles of bleach
• 10-pound box laundry detergent
• Revolution for cats or dogs
• Or, any reasonable combination of the above
The folks at Fat Cat said veterinarian bills are the biggest expense for Assisi, so cash is the preferred donation, but donating any of the items will help you get new strings for you guitar.
