School hosts blood drive:
The Dundee-Crown High School boys basketball team is holding a blood drive from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 10, in the school auditorium. With each blood donation, the team will receive money to help defray the cost of summer camp. The team, which galvanized the Carpentersville area with a trip to the boys basketball Final Four this year, hopes to surpass 250 donations. The blood drive is open to people 18 and older, with parental waivers available for 16- or 17-year-olds. Walk-ins are welcome. Call (224) 484-5143.
Blood drive planned:
The village of South Elgin will host a blood drive from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 11, in the community room at River Crossing, 10 N. Gilbert St., South Elgin. To make an appointment, call (847) 695-0006 or visit hearlandbc.org. All donors will receive a gift card good for a free quart of Oberweis ice cream. Heartland is the sole blood supplier for Elgin's two hospitals: Sherman and Provena St. Joseph.
Fun night planned:
The Elgin Community Network and other groups will hist a Family Fun Night from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 12, at Wright Avenue Park at Wright and Kramer avenues, on Elgin's southeast side. Residents are invited for games and refreshments. There also will be bike safety tips, sustainable community materials and energy saving light bulbs for interested residents.
