Elgin wants park input
Elgin residents are invited to attend a planning meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, in the west conference room at the Centre, 100 Symphony Way, Elgin. The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board is looking for input on a concept plan for the West Regional Park, located on Plank Road, west of Switzer Road in Elgin. The park is 224 acres and will be developed in phases, the first of which may include tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, a picnic shelter and two soccer fields, as well as a parking lot. If you're are unable to attend, send comments to Paul Bednar, Park Development Coordinator for the City of Elgin at Parks & Recreation Department at 100 Symphony Way, Elgin, IL. 60120, or call (847) 931-6788 or e-mail bednar_p@cityofelgin.org.
ESO scholarships awarded

Dearion, a sixth-grade student of Lakewood School, and Karla, a seventh-grade student at Carpentersville Middle School, emerged from a pool of seven finalists after auditioning before ESO Music Director Robert Hanson, musicologist Dan Maki, and ESO violinist Susan Thorne. The students will receive two years of free private music instruction at Elgin Community College or Judson University. In addition, the student will receive three season subscriptions to the Elgin Symphony Orchestra Classics Series and free instrument rental during the scholarship period.
Trail closed for bridge work
A section of the Fox River Trail in Carpentersville will close temporarily this week due to nearby construction work. The Kane County Forest Preserve District will install bridge abutments for a bridge to be set during the summer. The work will force the temporary closure of the trail from the entrance road of Fox River Shores Forest Preserve north to Angelina Place. Posted signs will alert trail users. There will be no access through the section of trail, nor will there be an alternate route during that time because of traffic and limited shoulder space on Williams Road. For details, call (630) 232-5980.
