Get your pancakes -- for a penny
It's time to stock up on that breakfast comfort food.
On June 4, the Colonial Cafe in Algonquin will be selling pancakes for a penny, and its management will also seek donations for the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Interfaith Food Pantry.
The penny pancake breakfast is back for the second time - last year, the cafe served more than 5,600 pancakes.
Staffers will serve pancakes all day long to customers eating in who also buy a beverage.
The Colonial Cafe is at 2555 Bunker Hill Road.
The food pantry is at 600 E. Oak Street in Lake in the Hills.
It gives food to residents who are unemployed or underemployed, those with disabilities, the elderly, children, the working poor and the homeless.

LITH Web site upgrade: Lake in the Hills has recently launched a much more streamlined Web site that officials say will enhance communication between the village and its residents and merchants.
Officials say the new Web site is intended to be more user-friendly than its previous incarnation and also includes more features, such as maps, village forms, archived meeting minutes, agendas, codes and a link to the Hire in the Hills program, reserved for people looking for work in the village.

Veterans picnic needs your support: Cary-Grove AMVETS Post 245 will be holding a picnic for hospitalized veterans at 11 a.m. June 10 at Lyons Park in Fox River Grove, and they need your help.
The post needs people to help serve and bring hot dogs, hamburgers, soda and ice cream cake.
People who also know how to grill are welcome to help.
More than 500 veterans are expected to attend, and civilians are welcome, too. The picnic will include Bingo, music, boat rides and games.
If you need more information, would like to help or want to make a donation, call Senior Vice Commander Bob DePaul at (847) 639-0267.
