Libertyville outlasts Highland Park
Libertyville d. Highland Park: At Stevenson, Tom Hannum hammered 17 kills and J.J. Hill slammed 16, as the Wildcats rallied for a 24-26, 25-13, 25-18 win in their regional opener.
Libertyville (27-8) will face host Stevenson at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the regional championship.
Matt Bernard served 6 aces and dished out 23 assists on 39-of-40 setting. Nick Olson was 24-of-24 setting with 15 assists.
Libertyville also got 6 kills from Matt Anderson and five from Jim Revenaugh. Eric Clover dealt a pair of aces.
Stevenson d. St. Viator: At Stevenson, Brad Feiger pounded 12 kills, Kyle Buck had nine and Brian Czosek was 56-of-56 setting with 28 assists, as the Patriots won 25-18, 25-12 in their regional semifinal.
Jay Meisner rang up 15 digs for Stevenson (28-7), which hosts Libertyville at 7 p.m. Wednesday for the regional championship.
Vernon Hills d. Zion-Benton: At Vernon Hills, the host Cougars won 26-24, 25-18, as three players - Ernie Choi, Keegan Harris and Garrett Kubacki - each had 6 kills.
Sam Lee and Justin Opitz lofted 13 and 9 assists, respectively, for Vernon Hills (28-8), which plays Deerfield at 7 p.m. Wednesday for a regional championship.
Quintin Anderson contributed 18 digs for the Cougars. Mike Robinson had 9 digs, 4 kills, 2 blocks and an ace. Alex Tartakovsky also had 4 kills.
Buffalo Grove d. Mundelein: At Mundelein, the host Mustangs nearly pulled off the upset, losing 28-30, 25-18, 25-22. Mundelein (20-16) got 12 kills from Mitchell Baumgartner and 11 from John McElligott.
Patrick Lentz and Jack Boich each had 3 blocks, while Andrew Roscoe dished out 40 assists on 90-of-91 setting.
