Relay for Life this weekend
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Mount Prospect/Prospect Heights will be held Friday, May 29 at Prospect High School, 801 W. Kensington Road, in Mount Prospect. Events include opening ceremonies at 6 p.m., the survivor/caregiver laps at 6:30 p.m., the luminaria ceremony at 10 p.m., and the fight back ceremony at 10:45 p.m. Entertainment will include Prospect High School's Mixed Company and Orchesis, the band Local Heroes and the Synergy Dance Company. Fun and Fitness Artwalk
The Mount Prospect Downtown Merchants Association will host its 5th annual Fun and Fitness Artwalk from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 31. Start the free event at the corner of Prospect Avenue and Wille Street at any time. There will be a 2-mile fun walk/run around the downtown area culminating with an art and business expo at the finish line. There will be goody bags for everyone and raffle prizes. Boating safety classes set
U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 7-11 has organized more two-day basic boating safety classes in June and July at Holy Ghost Church, 254 N. Wood Dale Road, in Wood Dale. The classes will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on consecutive Saturdays. The first session is June 6 and 13, and the second will be July 18 and 25. The cost is $40 per person or $50 per family. Streamwood to upgrade village Web site
The village of Streamwood will contract with its current Web provider to make its Web site more modern and user-friendly. The village will pay Municipal Web services of Birmingham, Mich. $8,900 to develop the site. The company will charge additional fees for Web site hosting, electronic rendering and online storage. Upgrading the Web site had been brought up in the recent spring election between Village President Billie Roth and Trustee Jason Speer.
