Stevenson, Vernon Hills set for NSC showdown

Stevenson won. Vernon Hills won.

So let the match begin.

The two boys volleyball powers won their respective matches Wednesday night to set up Thursday's 6 p.m. battle at Vernon Hills that will determine the North Suburban Conference champion.

Brad Feiger and John Baader each slammed 5 kills, as Stevenson knocked off Zion-Benton 25-16, 25-16 to remain perfect in the NSC.

Stevenson (26-5, 7-0) also received 14 digs from Jay Meisner, while Nick Kloepfer recorded 2 solo and 4 assisted blocks. Darien Wu and Brian Czosek lofted 9 and 8 assists, respectively.

Vernon Hills, meanwhile, beat North Chicago 25-19, 25-16, as Mike Robinson and Pat Stone had 3 kills each.

Vernon Hills (23-4, 8-0) also got 3 blocks from Alex Tartakovsky and 9 digs from Quintin Anderson. Justin Opitz was 18-of-18 setting with 9 assists, and Sam Lee was 21 of 21 with 7 assists.

Libertyville d. Lake Forest: The Wildcats pulled out the North Suburban thriller 25-23, 29-27, as Tom Hannum pounded 13 kills.

Matt Anderson had 8 kills for Libertyville (22-8, 7-2). Matt Bernard dished 16 assists and Nick Olson lofted 11. Eric Clover had 12 digs.

Mundelein d. Antioch: John McElligott and Mitchell Baumgartner hammered 13 and 10 kills, respectively, leading the Mustangs to the North Suburban victory.

Joey Timmerman and Andrew Roscoe had 16 and 14 assists, respectively, for Mundelein (19-13, 5-4).

Warren d. Lake Zurich: The Blue Devils captured a 25-15, 25-14 decision in North Suburban action to improve to 21-12 and 7-2.
