Join in Huntley's annual parade

The Huntley American Legion Post 673 will host its annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25.

The parade will start at the Huntley Municipal Complex, 10987 Main St., and proceed west on Main Street, to the Huntley American Legion Post at Coral and Woodstock streets, for a brief memorial ceremony. After the ceremony, a free public luncheon will be hosted at the American Legion Hall.

Concert to benefit PADS, Crisis Center

First United Methodist Church will host a benefit concert for the Community Crisis Center and PADS at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17 in the church sanctuary, 318 W. Main St., West Dundee.

Holly McNeil, Claude and Jan Quisenberry, Act of Grace, Steve and Sylvia Francois and the Rev. Steve Mindrup will be the featured musicians. Admission will be a canned good and there will be a freewill offering. For details, call (847) 426-2113 or visit www.firstumcdundee.net.

Schedule audition for youth orchestra

The Elgin Youth Symphony Orchestra, an in-residence ensemble at Elgin Community College, invites young musicians with a desire to grow, play better and to think and feel more deeply about music to audition for the 2009-10 season.

The annual auditions are private and held at ECC. Since 1976, the EYSO has been challenging and inspiring an ever-widening circle of young musicians with rich, deep musical experiences. Today, the EYSO is the largest and oldest youth orchestra in northwest Illinois.

Auditions will be held from May 28-31. Students who will begin fourth grade in the fall to college students may audition for a seat in one of EYSO's five ensembles. Applications and audition requirements may be found at www.eyso.org, or by calling the EYSO office at (847) 841-7700.

Oak Crest to host book sale this week

Oak Crest Residence and Atrium Apartments, 204 S. State St., Elgin, invites the community to attend their monthly book sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 12 and Wednesday, May 13 in the Atrium. The book sale features a large selection of gently used books, VHS movies and CDs. There are over 1,000 titles, mostly in mint condition. Hardbacks $1; paperbacks $0.50.
