Donate shoes to needy:
Hannah Beardsley Middle School, 515 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake, is holding a used shoe drive at 7 p.m. Friday, May 8. Souls4Souls and Fellowship of Christian Athletes will donate gently used shoes to people in need across the country and around the globe. The event features a performance by basketball handler Tanya Crevier. The admission fee is a pair of gently used shoes. Monetary donations will also be accepted and will be used to ship the shoes. Swine flu and you:
The McHenry County Department of Health has set up a call center and Web page for those who need more information about the swing flu outbreak, symptoms and prevention. That phone number is (815) 334-4510, and you can view the site at mcdh.info. Moreover, the department will send out mailers detailing similar information. There also is a call center in place at Centegra Health System. That number is (815) 236-8347.
Give until it feels good:
Shelter Inc. will have volunteers at stores, intersections and Metra stations peppered throughout the Northwest suburbs Friday through Sunday for their 18th annual Shelter-A-Child Tag Days. Over the past 19 years, taggers have solicited contributions to benefit the nonprofit child welfare agency that serves Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and McHenry counties. Visit shelter-inc.org.
