Library odors are sign of serious issue

The Schaumburg Library is among community libraries dealing with the problem of visitors so malodorous that the less pungent patrons not only complain but sometimes become nauseated.

Apparently, mounting job losses are separating increasing numbers of people from their homes and access to facilities for bathing and washing clothes.

Rather than just rearranging the library furniture to spread out the offending parties, I hope library officials are working with social service agencies to address the cause of these patrons' unfortunate circumstances.

Billions of dollars from our economy have disappeared out the door. Those left behind deserve decent housing.
