Bond set for woman charged with Dundee-Crown theft
To get out of jail, Lisa Burkhart-Foster needs about a tenth of the money she's accused of stealing from students at Dundee-Crown High School.
A Kane County judge Friday set bail at $100,000 for the former school secretary who was indicted two weeks ago on a felony theft charge. She must post $10,000 to be released.
Police say Burkhart-Foster, 46, pilfered $100,672.54 from a student activity fund for special projects, such as prom and the yearbook, over two years. She was responsible for the fund from March 2004 to May 2006 before being reassigned. Once discrepancies in the fund came to light, the school district contacted Carpentersville police and had a forensic audit done.
After her indictment, police spent about two weeks looking for Burkhart-Foster, of the 500 block of Barrington Avenue in East Dundee, before learning they were using an old address. She was picked up in a traffic stop early Thursday in Carpentersville.
Burkhart-Foster has no criminal record in Kane County other than traffic offenses, court records show. On Friday afternoon, she remained in the county jail in St. Charles, unable to post bond.
School officials say the student activity fund was insured and will be replenished.
