DUI crackdown in Lisle:

Lisle police will conduct a roadside safety check Friday evening along Ogden Avenue that will focus on motorists driving under the influence and not wearing seat belts. The crackdown is being funded with both state and federal grants. Police say they hope the effort will reduce the potential for traffic accidents.

Dist. 204 focuses on science:

Indian Prairie Unit District 204 high school students soon will have to take an extra science class to graduate. The school board this week approved a change in high school graduation requirements, raising the minimum science credits to three. The change will begin with the graduating class of 2014.

Lisle gets public works chief:

Jason Elias, Geneva's city engineer and assistant director of public works, is taking a job as public works director in Lisle, Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns announced Monday night. Elias has worked for Geneva since January 2007. Elias lives in Lombard.

Pancake Day in Wheaton:

The Kiwanis Club of Wheaton holds its 58th annual Pancake Day from 7 a.m. to noon Saturday. This year's event returns to St. John Lutheran Church, Main and Seminary streets in Wheaton. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door. Money raised during the event and Kiwanis Peanut Days in the fall fund the club's support of more than 45 local groups and organizations serving the Wheaton area, officials said.
