Judson's annual prayer breakfast coming up

Bob Muzikowski, founder of the Chicago Hope Academy, a college preparatory school for underprivileged youth, will serve as the keynote speaker at Judson University's annual Prayer Breakfast at 7:30 a.m. May 5 in the campus' Lindner Fitness Center, 1151 N. State St., Elgin. Other program participants will be Alistair Brown, president of Northern Theological Seminary; Jose Torres, superintendent of Elgin Area School District U-46; and Elgin Community College President David Sam. This year, Judson is partnering with U-46 to provide reading materials for students at Century Oaks Elementary School in Elgin. Attendees are invited to bring new or gently read books for preschool and grade-school age children. State's attorney launches arson unit

McHenry County State's Attorney Louis Bianchi is launching an arson unit in his office to help investigate and prosecute cases involving intentionally set fires. The unit, to be lead by Assistant McHenry County State's Attorney Philip Hiscock, also will provide legal training to firefighters and investigators. Before becoming a criminal prosecutor, Hiscock worked in private practice where he litigated cases involving fires, explosions and mechanical failures. Joining him in the unit will be Assistant State's Attorney Sharyl Eisenstein.

Algonquin Township GOP scholarships

The Algonquin Township Republicans will award two $500 scholarships to winning applicants who live in Algonquin Township, are a graduating high school senior, have been accepted to a college, university or vocational/technical school, complete and sign an application form that includes answering essay questions by April 30.
