County hosts green office fair:
McHenry County's Green Team is hosting a "Going Green in the Office" fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, at the county administration building in Woodstock. The fair, in conference rooms B and C of the building at 667 Ware Road, will include information about "green" products and making your office more environmentally friendly. Formed last year, the Green Team is a group of county workers that work to develop ways for the county to be more environmentally conscious through its practices and energy usage. For details, call Adam Lehmann at (815) 334-0309.

The deLacey Family Education Center for at-risk preschoolers is holding an event to mark the Week of the Young Child. You are invited to the Carpentersville school at 50 Cleveland Ave. for an open house from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 23. Library to cut costs:
The Huntley Area Public Library is taking steps to reduce costs as it deals with increased demand for its services and stagnating revenue. The library plans to cut its phone bill by switching to a cheaper provider and save on programs by hosting fewer paid speakers, among other cost-saving measures. "It's a lot of little things put together," Maravilla said. The cost-cutting comes after voters rejected a second request for a tax increase that would have enabled the library to triple in size.
