Hydrant flushing starts today:

Starting today, workers from Lake in the Hills' public works department will hold a systemwide water main flushing program, which affects the public water supply. Officials will target the area west of Randall Road this week and all other parts of town the week of April 27. Flushing is expected to end May 1 and will not occur after 6 p.m. weekdays nor spill over into the weekends. Authorities ask that residents refrain from doing laundry while the flushing goes on.

Apply for bilingual program:

Community Unit District 300 is accepting applications for its dual language program through Wednesday. The program is open to English and Spanish kindergartners throughout the district. The goal of the program is to make students bilingual in English and Spanish while teaching them about other cultures. The program will be offered at Gary D. Wright, Meadowdale and Liberty elementary schools. An orientation session will be held at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at Wright Elementary, 1500 Ketchum Road. Call (847) 551-8316.

Used book sale:

A used book sale Thursday will raise money for the Wasco Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization. The sale is planned for 3:30 to 8 p.m. in the school community room at 4N782 School Street, Campton Hills. Gently used books, CDs, audio books and software will be among items priced from 50 cents to $2. Call (847) 464-4064.

Lego show in Geneva:

The Geneva History Center will host the Lego Train Show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The Northern Illinois Lego Train Club will display intricate constructions including skyscrapers, scenes from "Star Wars" and "Harry Potter" movies and well-known Geneva homes and buildings. Admission is $5 for nonmembers, $3 for members and children.

Sponsors sought:

The Kane County Child Advocacy Center seeks sponsors for a May 17 walk to raise money for groups that investigate cases of sexual and physical abuse against children. The 10-mile Champions for Children Walk will be held in Chicago. Gov. Pat Quinn is the scheduled grand marshal. To sponsor a local walker or make a donation pledge, call (630) 208-5160.
