Here is what's in the news for the week of April 20 at Elgin Area Unit District 46 schools. For details, visit u-46.org.

Larkin High

• On Friday and Saturday, the musical "Annie" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Larkin High School auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Ticket prices are $8 per person. Seniors, 62 and older, may attend U-46 plays and concerts for free if they pick up a platinum card from Paula in the Communications office. Call (847) 888-5000, ext. 5040 to order one now.

Streamwood High

• On Tuesday, a fashion show will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Streamwood High School auditorium, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. Students in the fashion classes have designed and made their own creations and will then model them. For information, call Nancy Gaa at (630) 213-5500, ext. 8629.

• On Sunday, a car show will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the student parking lot. Admission is free. For information, call Jim Switalski at (630) 213-5500, ext. 8635.

Ellis

• On Wednesday and Thursday, the all-school play "Aladdin" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Ellis Middle School auditorium, 225 S. Liberty St., Elgin. Tickets are $1 per student, $2 per adult, and $6 per family. Kenyon Woods

• On Thursday, a parent orientation for incoming seventh-graders will be held at 6 p.m. at Kenyon Woods Middle School, 1515 Raymond St., South Elgin.

Tefft

• On Friday, Eastview Middle School faculty will challenge Tefft Middle School faculty in a basketball game at 7 p.m. at Bartlett High School gym, 701 Schick Road.

Bartlett

• On Monday through Friday during school hours, a book fair will take place in the Bartlett Elementary School library, 111 E. North Ave. Parents may also attend during the week or come with their children on Friday evening. During the evening, they can also view the display of Young Authors books, see Mr. Freeze of Fermilab fame, or tour the Family Science Fair.

• On Monday, the "Citizens of the Month" for March and April will be honored during the lunch periods with pizza and a small gift provided by the parent/teacher group PTB. After lunch, the sixth-graders will learn about middle school procedures at Eastview in their anticipation of their visit to that school on April 27.

Clinton

• On Tuesday, kindergarten to second-grade students at Clinton Elementary School will present a Spring Sing at 7 p.m. at South Elgin High School, 760 E. Main St.

Glenbrook

• On Wednesday, Family Math Night will be enjoyed at Glenbrook Elementary School, 315 Garden Circle in Streamwood. Each classroom will be set up with math games for parents to learn and play with their children.

Harriet Gifford

• On Thursday, third- and fourth-grade students will present a Black Light musical titled "Space Out" will be presented at 7 p.m. at the Harriet Gifford Elementary School, 240 S. Clifton Ave., Elgin.

Hawk Hollow

• On Monday through Friday, a Scholastic Book Fair will be held during school hours at Hawk Hollow Elementary School in Bartlett.

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 6 p.m. at the school, 235 Jacaranda Drive in Bartlett. For information, call (630) 540-7676. This orientation is for the parents to register their child and sign up for kindergarten screening.

Highland

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Highland Elementary School, 190 N. Melrose Ave. in Elgin. For information, call (847) 888-5280. This orientation is for the parents to register their child and sign up for kindergarten screening.

• On Thursday, a spring musical will be held at 7 p.m. in the gym.

Laurel Hill

• On Tuesday, a Family Literacy/Young Authors Night will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. at Laurel Hill Elementary School, 1750 Laurel Ave., Hanover Park. Special guest, U-46 Superintendent Jose Torres will join in the fun.

• On Thursday, the English Language Learners parenting class, sponsored by Hanover Township, will be held from 9:45 to 11 a.m. Homework strategies will be discussed.

Liberty

• On Wednesday, "Abe Lincoln" will present an assembly for third- to sixth grade students to learn more about his life at 1 p.m. in the Liberty Elementary School gym, 121 Naperville Road in Bartlett.

• On Thursday, The Bucket Boys will perform at an all-school assembly in the gym. The Bucket Boys are a hip-hop percussion duo combining music, laughter, crowd interaction and positive life skills.

Lincoln

• On Tuesday, kindergarten orientation for parents of bilingual children will be held at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Elementary School, 1650 Maureen Drive, Hoffman Estates. For information, call (847) 289-6639. This orientation is for the parents to register their child and sign up for kindergarten screening.

Lords Park

• On Tuesday, third- to sixth-graders at Lords Park Elementary School in Elgin will present a Spring Sing at 7 p.m. in the Elgin High School auditorium, 1200 Maroon Drive, Elgin.

Nature Ridge

• On Monday through Friday during school hours, a Book Fair will be held in the Nature Ridge Elementary School library.

• On Wednesday, parents may attend the Book Fair and view the stories from Young Authors from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in the gym, 1899 Westridge Blvd., Bartlett.

Parkwood

• On Monday, kindergarten orientation will be held at 9 a.m. at Parkwood Elementary School, 2150 Laurel St., Hanover Park. For information, call (630) 213-5595. This orientation is for the parents to register their child and sign up for kindergarten screening.

Wayne

• On Wednesday, an assembly presented by the theatrical group Child's Play will perform plays and skits from students' writing at 8:30 and 9:30 a.m. at Wayne Elementary School, 5N443 School St., Wayne. Besides acting out some of the student's Young Author stories, they will also act out some of their own creations.

Willard

• On Monday, kindergarten to third-graders at Willard Elementary School will present a Spring Sing at 6:30 p.m. at South Elgin High School, 760 E. Main St. At 7:30 p.m., fourth- to sixth-grade students will perform.

In other news

• On Saturday, Boy Scout Troop 10 and the Izaak Walton League of Elgin will host their annual spaghetti dinner from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, 330 Griswold St., Elgin. Proceeds will benefit Boy Scout Troop 10 activities and supplies and Izaak Walton League Conservation Projects. Boy Scout Troop 10 includes students from the following schools: Century Oaks, Clinton and Huff elementary schools; Abbott and Kimball middle schools; and Elgin and Larkin high schools.
