Church hosts rummage sale
The First Congregational Church of Huntley will host its annual spring rummage sale this weekend. The sale will be from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 24, and from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 25. The church is at the corner of Main and Church streets in downtown Huntley. Items for sale include children's clothes, toys, sports equipment, books, crafts and furniture. Police hold safety meeting
South Elgin Police will host a seminar at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 24 at the village's senior services center, 101 S. Grove Ave., to provide reminders on how residents can protect their homes and property from possible thefts and burglaries due to the recession. The event is free. For details, call (847) 741-2151.
Shimmy for the cure
The Ladies Auxiliary to Elgin's VFW Post 1307 is holding its second annual fundraiser for cancer aid and research Sunday, April 26, at the post home, 1601 Weld Road. The Shimmy for the Cure event features the Mystic Rose Dancers and Anisah Amirah. All the dancers are cancer survivors and the donate their time to raise funds for cancer research. Doors will open at 1 p.m. and the belly dancing show starts at 2 p.m. There will be a buffet luncheon, cash bar and raffles. Reservations are required. It is a two-hour show. Law school scholarships
The Kane County Bar Association seeks applicants for its annual scholarship program for area law students. In years past, the association has awarded at least two $1,000 scholarships to students who either reside in Kane County themselves or whose parents live in Kane County.
