Big band visits school:

The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, founded by legendary bandleader and saxophonist Jimmy Dorsey, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday at Hampshire High School, 1600 Big Timber Road. The orchestra, under the direction of trombonist Bill Tole and featuring vocalist Nancy Knorr, will perform with the Hampshire High School Jazz Ensemble. Tickets will be available at the door for $24 each. Proceeds from the concert benefit music students at Hampshire High School. Visit musicparents.homestead.com.

Registration ends today:

Pingree Grove will be holding its second annual craft show May 16 and is looking for artists to display their handmade wares. There is no fee to enter, just a $50 deposit to hold your space in Pingree Park, money that will be returned to you at the end of the fair. The deadline to enter is today. Gifford Park potluck:

The Gifford Park Association in Elgin will be holding its annual membership pot luck at 6 p.m. Friday, April 17, in the Lords Park Pavillion. You do not have to be a member to attend. Bring a dish. There will be food and entertainment. E-mail francinecella@wowway.com with questions.

School hosts musical:

The Dundee-Crown High School music department is bringing the Elton John and Tim Rice musical "Aida" to the stage this month. The Carpentersville high school will host performances of the musical, based on the Verdi opera of the same name, at 7 p.m. on April 16, 17 and 19. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $6 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased at the Dundee-Crown main office and at the door. Call (224) 484-5250.

Senior safety seminar:

The Elgin Township Triad will host a senior safety seminar Thursday, April 16, at the township building, 729 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin. The event is free, but registration required by calling (847) 741-2045. A senior scam seminar will be held from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and a senior tax exemption will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a bag lunch afterward provided by the In the Neighborhood Deli in Elgin.
