Board meeting
• On Monday, the U-46 Board of Education meets at 7 p.m. in Room 140 at the Educational Services Center, 355 E. Chicago St. in Elgin. The public is welcome to attend and provide citizen comments to the school board at the open meetings. Bartlett High
• On Thursday through Saturday, the Bartlett High School music department presents the musical "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" at 7 p.m. There will also be a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 19. There are over 200 students involved with the production. It is an amazing cast with All-State Honors Choir member Vince Pribble as Sweeney Todd. With over 120 cast members on stage dancing and singing, it will be one of the best productions BHS has staged. They are very excited to present such a difficult score. Tickets are $12 for adults and $7 for students and senior citizens. Contact the music department at (630) 372-4700, ext. 4602 to reserve seats. Seniors, age 62 and older, may attend U-46 plays and concerts for free if they pick up a platinum card from Paula in the Communications office. Call (847) 888-5000, ext. 5040 to order one now.
Elgin High
• On Saturday, Elgin High School teacher Deb Perryman and her students will present a community environmental workshop beginning at 7:30 a.m. and ending about 1 p.m. The workshop will touch on topics such as public health and community structure, landfill space, alternatives to landfills, sustainable energy and much more. Also included will be a tour of the Elgin High Nature Trail and outdoor classroom. There will be tour guides and a variety of activities such as soil sampling, forestry and aquatic activities. Children's activities will be available from 8 to 11:30 a.m. PBS will be there to film the event for their upcoming documentary titled "American Cities: A Rebirth."
Larkin High
• On Friday and Saturday, the musical "Annie" will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Larkin High School auditorium, 1457 Larkin Ave., Elgin. Ticket prices are $8 per person. The musical will also be performed Friday, April 24 and Saturday, April 25. Also available on Saturday April 18 will be a dinner theater. Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. before the performance. Streamwood High
• On Tuesday, Streamwood High School students who achieved honor roll status for the first semester had the opportunity to sign up for a trip to Gameworks in Schaumburg for three hours of unlimited play and lunch.
• On Wednesday, the U-46 Middle School Choral Festival will be held at 7 p.m. in the gym, 701 W Schaumburg Road. All seventh- and eighth-grade choral students will participate. Admission is free.
• On Thursday through Saturday, the drama department presents the play "Inherit the Wind" at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The play will not only include student actors but some faculty performers. Admission is $5 per adult and $4 per student.
Ellis
• On Thursday, third quarter honor roll students will be treated to an ice cream social at 3 p.m. in the Ellis Middle School cafeteria
Kenyon Woods
• On Thursday, a Daddy/Daughter Dance will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Kenyon Woods Middle School cafe.
Tefft
• On Monday through Friday, the Book Fair will be held in the Tefft Middle School library during school hours.
• On Friday, the school dance will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $4 with the proceeds going toward the eighth-grade cruise at Navy Pier.
Bartlett
• On Friday, sixth-grade students will present the annual World's Fair from 9 a.m. to noon in the Bartlett Elementary School gym, 111 North Ave. Over 100 students present exhibits featuring the culture, geography and history of their chosen country that they have been studying for the last quarter.
Glenbrook
• On Thursday and Friday, a Book Fair will be held during school hours at Glenbrook Elementary School.
• On Friday, a Family Reading Night and Book Fair will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. in the library. Students from Elgin High will be coming to read stories to the students.
Hanover Countryside
• On Monday, the Read-athon begins at Hanover Countryside Elementary School. It will be an NCAA Reading Tournament.
Highland
• On Tuesday, a "Mission Nutrition" workshop will be held at 7:15 p.m. in the Highland Elementary School gym. Jeff Turner, owner of "In the Neighborhood Deli" will demonstrate healthy cooking and eating. He will also discuss how to cut costs and what exercises to do.
• On Friday, FOODPLAY Productions will present an assembly on nutrition at 1 p.m. in the gym. This goes along with the fruit/vegetable grant the school received earlier this year.
• Also on Friday, the PTO will sponsor Family Bingo Night from 6-8 p.m. in the gym. Food and prizes will be available.
• On Saturday, students who participated in Ozzie's Reading Club have a chance to attend the Kane County Cougars game at 5 p.m. with their families.
Liberty
• On Monday, the fourth-graders will perform a musical recital "Recorder Karate" to their friends and family at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty Elementary School gym, 121 Naperville Road in Bartlett.
• On Tuesday, the fifth-graders graduate from the D.A.R.E. program at 9 a.m. in the gym.
Nature Ridge
• On Wednesday, Nature Ridge Elementary School will present a spring music program titled "Broadway" at 7 p.m. at South Elgin High School. Classes participating are kindergarten-second and ENII classes.
• On Friday, the fifth-graders will take a field trip to Springfield.
Ridge Circle
• Friday evening is Family Movie Night at Ridge Circle Elementary School, 420 Ridge Circle in Streamwood. Popcorn and refreshments will be available.
Timber Trails
• On Tuesday, a spring music program will be presented by fourth- to sixth-graders at 7 p.m. in the Timber Trails Elementary School gym.
• On Wednesday, a spring music program will be presented by first- to third-graders at 7 p.m. in the gym
