Senior safety seminar:

The Elgin Township Triad will host a senior safety seminar April 16 at the township building, 729 S. McLean Blvd., Elgin. A senior scam seminar will be held from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and a senior tax exemption will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., with a bag lunch afterward provided by the In the Neighborhood Deli in Elgin. The event is free, but registration required by calling (847) 741-2045.

Police hold safety meeting:

South Elgin Police will host a seminar at 11:30 a.m. April 24 at the village's senior services center, 101 S. Grove Ave., South Elgin, to provide reminders on how residents can protect their homes and property from possible increase in thefts and burglaries due to the recession. The event is free. St. John's holds open house:

There will be a scavenger hunt open house at St. John's Lutheran School, 109 N. Spring St., Elgin, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 21. Families with kids ages 2 to 13 are invited to come explore the school and have a good time. St. John's is also holding open enrollment for the 2009-10 school year. Spaces are available in preschool for 3- and 4-year-olds, kindergarten and first through eighth grades. Visit stjohns-school-elgin.org.
