Atkinson Road open house

An open house regarding a $3.6 million project to rebuild Atkinson Road and solve flooding issues is set for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 8 at the Oak Grove School junior high learning center, 1700 O'Plaine Road, Green Oaks. The project is the result of an agreement between Libertyville Township and the village of Green Oaks. The township will allow the village to use its land to build two ponds to improve drainage and control flooding. The township also allocated $50,000 for paths and other improvements that will open the marshy property for recreational use. "Without the township's commitment, this road could not be repaired. This is a historic agreement," said Libertyville Township Supervisor Betty-Ann Moore.

Mundelein to talk budget

The Mundelein village board's finance committee meet at 6 p.m. Monday, April 6 to discuss the proposed budget for the next fiscal year. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at the main fire station, 1000 N. Midlothian Road. The 2010 fiscal year begins May 1.

Clerk's office to close

The Lake County Clerk's office will be closed on Tuesday, April 7 as employees work on Election Day-related duties. All clerk's office services will resume Wednesday, April 8. People with emergency needs regarding vital records or tax matters occurring on Election Day should call (847) 377-2000.

Be in the Memorial Day parade

Mundelein officials are looking for military veterans, Boy and Girl Scouts, and other people to participate in the town's annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, May 25. Application forms are available at village hall or at mundelein.org. Forms should be returned by May 21. The parade starts at 10 a.m. at village hall and proceeds to Memorial Park for a ceremony.

District 38 fee cut

The Big Hollow Elementary District 38 school board voted unanimously to cut registration fees to families feeling the effects of the nationwide recession. Discounted registration fees for the 2009-10 school year are $150 for one child, $100 for the second child and $50 for each additional child if paid before July 15. Late fees also will not be applied if families contact the district and set up a payment plan before July 15.

Lake Villa hydrant flushing

The village of Lake Villa will flush fire hydrants from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. between Sunday, April 19 and Friday, May 1. Residents may experience rusty water and/or lower water pressure during these times. Signs will posted signs in neighborhoods on those days. For details, call the water department at (847) 245-6900.
