Facebook photos reveal Bartlett teens drinking, stolen trophy

More than a dozen Bartlett High School students are being questioned about Facebook pictures involving alcohol and a stolen school trophy.

Principal Kevin Skinkis said Tuesday that a teacher at the school discovered some pictures on Facebook and alerted school officials.

In the photos, students appear to be at a party at a house.

"There was a trophy from one of our trophy cases in the pictures," Skinkis said. "In some of the other pictures, there was alcohol involved."

The school is conducting an investigation into the matter, Skinkis said.

Bartlett Police Sgt. Michael McGuigan said Elgin Area School District U-46 did file a complaint about the stolen trophy.

However, McGuigan said, police will not progress further with an investigation.

The trophy - the "Braggin' Jug" that is passed back and forth between Bartlett and football rival Streamwood High School - was anonymously returned to the school on Tuesday, Skinkis said.

"We don't know how the trophy was taken or who was responsible for removing it from its case," he said.

Skinkis said about 15 students have been questioned by school officials, the majority of them juniors and seniors.

Because the party did not happen on school grounds, "we don't know at this point if it's a school issue," he said.

Students, he said, "seem to have no problem putting the pictures up (on Facebook), but don't want to talk about it."
