Monday's Fox Valley roundup

Luc Geier fired a 1-hitter in the opener and Justin Lewis drove in 4 runs in the nightcap as Larkin's baseball team swept Dundee-Crown Monday, winning 11-0 and 8-3.

Geier struck out five in the opener and also hit a home run and drove in three for the Royals. Jon Meidel was 3-for-4 with a double and 3 RBI as well. In the second game, Lewis' 3-run homer in the first inning set the tone for the Larkin sweep. Craig Wenzel also contributed 2 hits with a double.

Storm falls twice: South Elgin dropped a pair of games at Elk Grove to open the season Monday, losing 4-1 and 7-5. Drew Buddle took the loss in Game 1 as the Storm managed just 3 hits. Brett Nuisman went 6 innings in Game 2 and the Storm had a 5-4 lead but the Grens scored 3 times in the seventh to earn the win. Jake Toppel took the loss. Buddle was 2-for-3 with a double and Kyle Kinyon had 2 hits for South Elgin.

Hampshire 4, ACC 2: Zach Crinigan hit a home run in the sixth inning to tie the game and Matt Kuefner's dinger in the ninth inning won this nonconference game for Hampshire (3-1). Kent Larson was the winning pitcher.

Schaumburg 7, Cary-Grove 5: Nick Hammond and Alex Cooke each doubled for Cary-Grove in this nonconference loss.
