Lindenhurst launches E-news program

Lindenhurst village officials are introducing an E-news subscription service. E-news will provide news and information about programs, services and events in town. Route 60 meeting

The Illlinois Department of Transportation hosts an informational meeting open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, regarding a study for the proposed improvement of Route 60/83 from Route 176 to the intersections of Route 60 and Route 83. This project is not included in IDOT's 2009-14 proposed highway improvement program, but will be considered in future programs based on the availability of funds and project readiness. The meeting will be at the Mundelein police department, 221 N. Lake St.

Busy construction season

This will be a big year for road construction in Lake County. County and state projects scheduled to begin this year include: the reconstruction of intersections at Darrell and Burnett roads in Island Lake; widening and signals at Fairfield Road and Bonner Road in Wauconda, and Fairfield and Nippersink Road in Round Lake; the relocation and signalization of the Peterson Road/Route 60 intersection in Round Lake Park and Mundelein. Resurfacing projects include: Gages Lake Road from Route 45 to Hunt Club Road in Gurnee; O'Plaine Road from Washington Street to Route 132 in Gurnee; and, Route 120 from Route 45 to Atkinson Road in Grayslake. Also, a southbound right-turn lane will be added on Milwaukee Avenue at Winchester Road in Libertyville. Visit www.lakecountyil.gov/transportation.

D73 candidate forum

The Hawthorn Education Association hosts a community forum featuring Hawthorn Elementary District 73 school board candidates at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, at Townline Elementary, 810 N. Aspen Drive, Vernon Hills. All candidates have been invited to participate. HEA will also create candidate profiles, which will be posted at www.hawthorn73.org when they become available. During the April 7 election, voters will fill three, 4-year terms on the seven-member board. Candidates whose names will appear on the ballot are Timothy Shanahan, Theresa Calabrese, Donna Gaidamak and Julie Weiler. Hoffman has dropped out of the race, but her name will still appear on the ballot.

Armed robbery suspects sought

Round Lake Beach police are searching for two suspects in the armed robbery of Nikko's Quick Mart at 731 W. Rollins Road on Wednesday, March 18. Officials said two men entered the business at 1:56 p.m. wearing masks and displaying a black handgun. The men told the clerk to get down and took cash out of the register. They were unsuccessful in trying to get into a safe. Witnesses reported both suspects fled the store in a maroon two-door vehicle resembling a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. No one was injured.
