Open forum

• The next "Conversations with Dr. Torres" from 6 to 7 p.m. Thursday will be an open forum regarding the development of the district's budget for the 2009-10 school year. The forum will be held in Room B100 at South Elgin High School, 760 E. Main St. John Prince, the district's chief financial and operations officer, will present an overview of the budget priorities for the next school year and information on the uncertainty regarding the revenue from both the state and local property taxes. The forum precedes the Citizens' Advisory Council meeting that begins at 7 p.m. at South Elgin High. The CAC meeting will be highlighted by a candidate forum for individuals running for the U-46 board of education.

Elgin High

• On Thursday, the orchestra will present a concert at 7 p.m. in the Elgin High School auditorium, 1200 Maroon Drive. Tickets are $2 for adults; $1 for students or senior citizens; and $6 for entire families.

Larkin High

• On Tuesday, Larkin High School choral students will be joined by eighth-grade choir students from Abbott Middle School at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium, 1475 Larkin Ave., Elgin. The Larkin Concert Choir and Mixed Chorus will perform along with selected senior soloists from the Visual and Performing Arts Academy. The finale of the show will feature all of the students, both high school and middle school, performing together. Choral director Javier Diaz will lead the performers. Tickets are $2 per adult, $1 per student or senior citizen, and $6 per family.

• On Thursday, Larkin orchestra students have a chance to show their talents, combining with local middle school students from Abbott and Kimball middle schools, at 7:30 p.m. The Larkin Concert Orchestra and Symphony Orchestra will both perform. Orchestra director Kelly Larson has brought these three schools together for the show. The concert will be in the auditorium. Tickets are $2 per adult, $1 per student or senior citizen, and $6 per family.

South Elgin High

• On Tuesday, orchestra and choral students will perform at 7 p.m. in the South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main St. Ticket prices are $2 per adult, $1 per student or senior citizen, and $6 per family.

Streamwood High

• On Monday, the winter athletic banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Streamwood High School commons, 701 W. Schaumburg Road. Parents are invited to see their child receive their letters/awards for winter sports.

• On Tuesday, the Jazz Stomp Concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Ticket prices are $2 per adult, $1 per student or senior citizen, and $6 per family.

• On Thursday, a choral concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. Ticket prices are $2 per adult, $1 per student or senior citizen, and $6 per family.

• On Saturday, the athletic booster club will sponsor a pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. in the commons.

Canton

• On Tuesday, a choral concert will be presented at 7 p.m. in the Canton Middle School gym, 1100 Sunset Circle, Streamwood.

Larsen

• On Thursday and Friday, selected students will perform a play called "We the People" at 7 p.m. in the Larsen Middle School auditorium, 665 Dundee Ave., Elgin. Admission is $3 per adult and $1 per student.

Fox Meadow

• On Monday, students in kindergarten through second grade at Fox Meadow Elementary School in South Elgin will perform a "Disney Spectacular" with the kindergartners. The concert will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the South Elgin High School auditorium, 760 E. Main. The concert will end at approximately 8 p.m. with the second-graders.

Highland

• On Wednesdays, a health clinic, sponsored by U-46 and the Greater Elgin Family Care Center, will be held for infant to 18-year-olds from 3 to 6 p.m. in the art room at the Highland Elementary School, 190 N. Melrose Ave in Elgin. Call for an appointment at (847) 608-1344. Services provided are: well baby exams, school and sports physicals, shots, minor illnesses, lead screening, diabetic screening and more.

• On Saturday, the PTO will sponsor a Family Swim Night from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way. The fee is $3 per child.

Liberty

• On Monday, students in Kim Stancl's second/third grade combination class along with the other third-graders will present the musical "Land of Liberty" at 6:30 p.m. in the Liberty Elementary School gym, 121 Naperville Road, Bartlett.

Nature Ridge

• On Saturday, a Fun Fair will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the Nature Ridge Elementary School, 1899 Westridge Blvd., Bartlett. There will be game rooms, raffle baskets, concessions and a cake walk.
