Blaze forces family from home near Glendale Heights

Firefighters still are trying to determine what sparked a blaze that caused nearly $150,000 damage Monday night to a house near Glendale Heights.

No injuries were reported in the fire that began in the basement of the ranch-style house and spread to the first floor, Glenside Fire Protection District authorities said Tuesday. The house has been declared uninhabitable and the family is staying with relatives.

Firefighters said they were called to 2N231 Virginia Ave. around 8:25 p.m. Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the house.

The blaze was brought under control in about 30 minutes, but the home suffered extensive fire, smoke and heat damage, authorities said.

Firefighters said it appears the blaze started near the furnace.

Firefighters from Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, West Chicago, Winfield and Wheaton assisted at the scene.
