Spirit of law not about technicalities

Schaumburg Township Republican Committeeman Michael Adelizzi's decision to drop his objection to the Democratic township candidates was a victory for the voters.

However, his statement that as party chairman he had an obligation to end an election is disappointing. Political parties need to give a higher priority to the electorate than their party's interests.

Eliminating competition by focusing on technicalities in the filing procedure denies the voters their right to choose their representatives by an open issue orientated campaign. While I am pleased with this outcome, I question his motives.
