Manzullo hosts town hall

Congressman Don Manzullo, R-Egan, is hosting a town hall meeting from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. today in Room 1344 of Huntley High School, 13719 Harmony Road. Manzullo and his staff will meet with residents and share the congressman's ideas on how to fix America's economy.

McHenry Sheriff names deputy jail chief

Patrick Firman, the former chief for the Lake County jail, was sworn in Friday as the new second-in-command and the McHenry County Adult Corrections Facility. In his new role, Firman will help oversee a facility that holds more than 550 inmates on an average day, hundreds of them foreign nationals detained by federal immigration authorities. He also will supervise a staff of 205 workers. Sheriff Keith Nygren said Firman was chosen after a nationwide because of his "stellar background" and experience at all levels of corrections work. Firman fills a post left vacant last year when former deputy chief Daniel Sedlock was promoted to chief.

Candidate looking for second chance

A candidate for East Dundee village president who was thrown off the ballot for improperly compiling his candidate petition will try again, this time as a write-in candidate. Michael Elmore is challenging incumbent Larry Keller, who is seeking his third full term as village president.

Foreclosure prevention workshop

Sign of the times

About a half dozen new signs that reflect Pingree Grove's latest population figure will be installed within the next two weeks, officials said. A special census held last year determined that there are now 3,986 people living in the village - the existing signs say there are roughly 2,500 residents.
