Candidate drops out of District 158 race

When seven candidates filed for a seat on the Huntley Unit District 158 board, the race for four, 4-year seats became the undercard to the top-billed two-man race between board members Larry Snow and Mike Skala.

Now, the race for the 4-year seats isn't even a fight.

Rob LaPorta, one of the five who initially sought a 4-year seat, has dropped out of the race, assuring an effortless victory for the four remaining candidates: incumbents Shawn Green and Kim Skaja as well as newcomers Paul Troy and Don Drzal.

LaPorta is seeking re-election as a Grafton Township trustee. LaPorta and three other incumbents will face two challengers in the Grafton Township Republican primary on Feb. 24.

With LaPorta's departure from the District 158 race, district voters now have just one choice to make: whether to elect Snow or Skala to the sole 2-year seat.
