District 300 OKs Lakewood plan

The Community Unit District 300 school board has approved a plan to restructure Lakewood School, a fifth- and sixth-grade building in Carpentersville. The school is required to submit the plan because its students have not consistently met state standards since 2003. Under the plan, the district would spend $78,603 to create a second assistant principal position and hire two teacher's aides. The school will also expand its summer school program, conduct an audit of its core subjects, increase staff training and maintain a 24:1 student-to-teacher ratio.

Route 47 could be in stimulus bill

The widening of Route 47 could be on the list of Illinois infrastructure projects that receives funding as part of the proposed federal stimulus bill. Huntley has submitted the $40 million project for consideration as part of the roughly $1 billion expected to be spent on Illinois roads, according to Village Manager Dave Johnson. "We think it's certainly a candidate for inclusion on that legislation," Johnson said. "We're trying to keep the (Route) 47 project visible."
