Help Grayslake softball player travel

Grayslake Trustee Jeff Werfel is promoting a fundraising effort designed to help a village teenager play in a prestigious softball tournament in the Netherlands in January 2010. Grayslake North High School freshman Brooke Tracy has been selected by the North American Fastpitch Softball Team to play in Cup 2010. Female athletes from Canada and the United States will play Europeans in softball on six select teams. North America general manager Kirt E. Whiteside has encouraged players to contact local businesses and friends to obtain about $3,000 to cover expenses. He said the goal would be to get 28 contributors at $250 each so no one is overly burdened. Tracy has achieved a 4.0 grade-point average at Grayslake North and is involved in various school activities, such as the Knight Times newspaper. Whiteside said it'll be the 16th Cup tournament, and the North American squad has won the event six times. Each player is allowed to have someone accompany them on the trip that includes a visit to Paris on its itinerary. Man denies planting camera

A Mount Prospect man accused of hiding a video camera in the women's bathroom of a Buffalo Grove business pleaded not guilty Tuesday in Lake County Circuit Court. David F. Kretz, 36, of the 1700 block of Rusty Drive, is charged with misdemeanor unauthorized videotaping. Police said Kretz was doing some alarm work in the business in the 1300 block of Barclay Boulevard in December and hid the camera under some paper towels in the bathroom. On Dec. 17, a woman found the camera and discovered it contained a partial image of Kretz. Police interviewed Kretz and say he admitted placing the camera there to record women using the facilities. Police say no one was filmed by the camera other than Kretz. Assistant State's Attorney Donald Tyer said Kretz faces up to one year in jail and a $2,500 if convicted. Associate Judge Veronica O'Malley ordered Kretz, who is free on a signature bond, to appear in court again Feb. 23.
